Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How does it all work? Here’s the answers!

What’s a Garden Share?

It’s a way for us to “share” what we grow and raise on our farm with you! It’s similar to a subscription service… You sign up for a season(s), choose your size of Garden Share box depending on how many are in your household and how much veg you enjoy eating. Then you choose the pickup or delivery days that work best for you – either weekly or every other week – and on those weeks, you’ll receive a box full of the produce we grow!

We’ve also teamed up with Boot Hill Farms, another awesome local farm, so they can share what they are raising with you too! We grow the produce, and they raise meats and eggs, so you can get all the local food you need in one-stop.

Who’s Harvie?

Harvie is our friendly support team, helping Mason and I with the technical tools of the trade that we need. We love farming, not being glued to the computer all day, so they do things like manage the software that allows for sign-up and customization, building Garden Share boxes based on the customers preferences, process payments, provide technical support, and much more.

You’ll love Harvie too! Their customer support is always available, ready to help with any questions or issues that might arise.

We work hand in hand with them so you can have an amazing experience with local food.

Ok, so after I sign up, what if I want to change the size or frequency of my order after I’ve placed it?

Not a problem! Nothing is set in stone; everything can be adjusted to find just the right fit for you and your family.

Just send an email to stacey@heritagefamilygardens.com or shoot me a text at 435-219-8670 and I’ll contact Harvie to get that changed. Please allow up to a week in advance of the delivery you’d like to update and we’ll be happy to make those changes for you.

What are the ‘preferences’ and how do I set them?

This is a vital step so please don’t skip it!! Your preferences are the fruits and vegetables that you love, or don’t love. You “set your preferences” by rating the produce we grow on a scale: a 5 being “I love it!” to a 1 being “I really don’t like it”.

Your preference ratings tell us what you like and what you don’t, so when Harvie builds your Garden Share box, it will only include those items that you like, and none of the items that you don’t enjoy. You can find a step-by-step guide on how to set your preferences here .

How do the weekly box customization periods work?

All customization emails inviting you to customize your Garden Share box are sent out by Thursday evening. The customization window closes at 8 a.m. on Monday morning so you have 3 entire days to customize your Garden Share Box. (We keep the customization tool open for as long as we can, but we also need to allow time to plan, pick, make, and gather offerings for the week.)

We suggest setting a weekly alarm on your phone as a reminder to make edits before the Monday morning deadline. Fortunately, customers can set their product preferences so that Harvie fills their box with items that they enjoy regardless of customization. Set your product preferences here !

If you’re out of town or have some other extenuating circumstance that caused you to miss the customization window, please text Stacey by the evening before your pickup/delivery day to make any necessary changes.

If you ever can’t find your customization email, be sure to check your spam folder. If you still can’t find it, login directly to your Harvie account and you’ll see your current delivery and can click “Swap Share Contents” (as long as you’re still within the customization period).

Lastly, we’ll always have our “Take OR Swap” table at our pickups so you can make any adjustments to your Garden Share that you want for that week. Take extra produce, try something new, swap out something you realized you really don’t need, any of those options (and more) are available with the Take OR Swap table.

Customization is key because we want you to be happy with your Garden Share Box!

How do I put a delivery on hold or reschedule it for another date?

Going out of town for a week? You can hold and reschedule your share prior to its finalization to ensure your schedule works best for you! We recommend rescheduling shares or placing holds at least a week in advance. Putting a share on hold does not automatically reschedule it. More on that can be found here .

How do the payment plans and payment schedules work?

Here’s an overview of our payment plans. If you would like to re-run a payment or update a card on file,  here’s how to do so.

What do I need to bring to pickups?

Please bring a tote, box, bag, laundry hamper, etc., whatever is your preference, to the pickups with you to carry home your produce. Should you forget, we will have reusable grocery sacks available.

What do I need to have ready for home delivery?

Please place a cooler outside your front door (or wherever you want your produce placed) so that it can stay cool and fresh until you can take it inside.

Are your products organic?

We are not certified organic yet our growing practices exceed the necessary standards required for certification. We feel very strongly about wise growing practices that improve and build the health of the soil. Harsh chemicals used in conventional farming practices not only produce an inferior product, but they damage the soils necessitating even more chemicals to continue to grow produce. That is precisely the cycle we are breaking! You can trust our produce to be free from any and all chemicals.

What share size should I get for my family?

Perhaps the easiest way to think about “how large” each share size will be is to simply consider the value of food you want to plan to spend toward local foods groceries each week/delivery. It is difficult to say how many items or how many pounds will be in a given share size because it just depends on your product preferences. It is all customized. So if you buy more expensive items like maple syrup, there will be fewer items in your box than if you buy bags of potatoes, for example.

Generally, we think of the small share being for 1-2 people , the medium share being for 2-4 people, and the large share being for 3-5+ people. Remember that you can always purchase extras items from week to week in addition to your normal share size.

All this being said, nothing is ever set in stone. If you find that you’re not receiving enough produce each week, or if you’re receiving too much, we can always make those adjustments. 🙂

Can I change my pickup?

Yes! You can change it through Harvie, or if something comes up last minute, shoot Stacey a text to coordinate a new pickup time.

What if I miss the customization window?

Life happens, we get it. If you miss the window and want to make changes to your box, shoot Stacey a text and let her know of the changes no later than 6 a.m. on your pickup day. We’re more than happy to oblige, but also, please don’t abuse this. 🙂

What do I need to bring to pickups?

What should I expect from pickups?

When you arrive, we will hand you your packing list that lists the produce that is in your box for the week.

Then you can make your way down the row of harvest bins and coolers to select those items which are on your packing list. If you have additional items on our packing list such as eggs or any extras such as pesto or flowers, you will be directed to where those are located..

The Farmers will always be on hand to answer questions or swap stories and news from the week. 🙂
