Baked Grapefruit Recipe

This recipe is new-to-us. Even the idea is new… who would have thought of baking grapefruit?!

We LOVE it!  And we think you’ll enjoy it too!  

This recipe is all but guaranteed to brighten your day and help you fight off the blues and sluggishness of these late-winter days. 🙂

Sweetened Baked Grapefruit with Cinnamon

2 Grapefruits (any variety)
3 tsp maple syrup (or honey, coconut sugar or unrefined brown sugar)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp. turmeric powder (optional)

Preheat oven to 400F.  Cut grapefruit into halves, removing any visible seeds, and place in a baking dish, face-side up.  Cut the flesh into segments with a small pairing knife.  Drizzle syrup or honey over the halves and sprinkle with cinnamon and turmeric, if using. Bake for 15 – 17 minutes and serve warm. 

For an uplifting breakfast, serve on top of yogurt with a sprinkle of chopped almonds. SO good!!

In the United States, grapefruit starts coming into season (ripening) in January.  It’s great to eat throughout the winter and spring – everyday if we can – because it will give our bodies the Vitamin C and other vitamins it needs to keep our immune system strong. Just what we all need to fight off all the illnesses going around, right?!

Grapefruit is also great to help us fight off the winter-blues and uplift our moods during the short, dark days of winter. Now that spring is slowly starting to make its appearance, this grapefruit recipe will welcome the sunshine and warmth of spring right into our bodies and minds too.
